Poundland Supplier Support: How HGA Is Helping Affected Businesses
Practical guidance for suppliers facing uncertainty, and how our industry can come together to help.
3 November 2026
Supporting our industry through uncertainty
The current uncertainty surrounding Poundland is understandably worrying for businesses across the home, gift and general merchandise supply chain.
Poundland has filed a Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators. Importantly, this does not mean the company is currently in administration. The notice provides temporary protection from creditor action while efforts continue to secure the future of the business.
While the situation continues to develop, we know that many suppliers will already be asking difficult questions about outstanding payments, future orders, stock commitments and what happens next.
At the Home & Gift Association (HGA), we want to do what we do best: bring our industry together, offer practical support and help businesses find opportunities, even in challenging circumstances.
Are you affected by the Poundland situation?
Whether you have unpaid invoices, outstanding orders, stock originally destined for Poundland or concerns about your next steps, please tell us. Your response will help us understand the impact and identify where HGA may be able to support you.

1. Understand Your Position
If you supply Poundland, assess your exposure now
The first step is understanding exactly where your business stands. Having a clear picture now will help you make informed decisions as the situation develops.
Start by documenting:
- Unpaid invoices, payment dates and amounts outstanding
- Outstanding purchase orders and contractual commitments
- Finished goods awaiting delivery
- Products currently in manufacture or transit
- Stock already held in the UK
- Bespoke or Poundland-branded products
- Future or forecast orders
- Deposits or payments already made to factories
- Warehousing and logistics commitments
Keep copies of relevant contracts, invoices, purchase orders and correspondence together so the information is readily available if you need professional advice.
Remember: distinguish between money currently owed to your business and potential future sales that may not materialise. Both matter, but they are different types of exposure.
2. Protect Your Business
Be cautious about further financial exposure
With reports of suppliers considering restricting deliveries, it is understandable that businesses may be reviewing whether to continue manufacturing, shipping or supplying goods.
Before making significant changes, carefully review your contractual obligations and commercial exposure. Decisions about stopping deliveries, changing production or recovering goods can have legal and financial consequences.
Our advice: seek appropriate professional legal, accounting, credit insurance or insolvency advice before taking action that could affect your contractual position.
3. Check Your Cover
Speak to your credit insurer
If your Poundland receivables are covered by trade credit insurance, contact your insurer or broker promptly.
Check the notification requirements, policy limits, exclusions and conditions that apply to your business. Do not assume that every outstanding balance or future loss will automatically be covered.
4. Review Cash Flow
Understand what different outcomes could mean
You do not need to wait for the situation to be resolved before reviewing your cash flow.
Speak to your accountant or financial adviser about the potential impact of delayed payments, unpaid invoices or changes to future orders.
Consider the impact on:
- Cash coming into your business
- Supplier and factory commitments
- Payroll and staffing costs
- VAT and other tax obligations
- Freight, warehousing and logistics
- Other essential business payments
If you anticipate difficulties meeting your own obligations, seek independent professional advice as early as possible.
5. Stock & Opportunities
Have you got stock destined for Poundland? We want to hear from you.
This is one of the areas where we particularly want to help.
If you have products originally intended for Poundland, please tell us about them. This could include:
- Finished goods awaiting delivery
- Cancelled or uncertain orders
- Seasonal merchandise
- Products currently in manufacture
- Generic stock that could be sold elsewhere
- Products that could be repackaged or adapted for another customer
By understanding what stock is available, the product categories involved and where businesses need help, we can explore potential connections with alternative buyers and routes to market across our industry network.

Explore alternative routes to market
Stock originally destined for one retailer does not necessarily mean it has nowhere else to go.
Depending on the products, packaging and commercial arrangements involved, there may be opportunities through:
- Other national retailers
- Independent retailers
- Garden centres
- Department stores
- Online marketplaces
- Wholesale and distribution partners
- Export markets
- Direct-to-consumer channels
For example, supplier Supreme plc disclosed a net receivables exposure of £460,000 to Poundland on 30 October 2026. The company also highlighted its view that consumer demand may move through alternative retail partners and direct-to-consumer platforms.
While this reflects Supreme's own circumstances rather than a prediction for other suppliers, it illustrates why exploring alternative channels is worthwhile. HGA can help identify potential connections across our network where appropriate.
7. Seasonal Products
Seasonal suppliers should act particularly carefully
For businesses supplying Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Easter, Father's Day, Halloween or summer merchandise, timing can make an already difficult situation more challenging.
The commercial window for reallocating seasonal stock may be limited, so consider the following questions:
What is generic? Could it be sold directly to another customer?
What is bespoke? Could branding, packaging or specifications be adapted?
What is time-sensitive? Which products become harder to sell once their seasonal window passes?
What is committed but not yet produced? Review your contractual obligations before changing manufacturing arrangements.
8. Understanding Administration
What happens if Poundland enters administration?
It is important to distinguish between a Notice of Intention to Appoint Administrators and the formal appointment of administrators.
If administrators are appointed, a formal process begins. The administrator is responsible for managing the business and determining how the administration proceeds, with formal notifications made to creditors and the relevant authorities.
Suppliers should follow official communications carefully and seek independent professional advice about their individual creditor position rather than relying on speculation.
9. Help Us Understand The Impact
Please tell HGA how your business is being affected
To provide meaningful support, we need to understand the challenges businesses are facing across the home and gift industry.
Our Poundland Supplier Impact & Support Register is designed to help us build that picture, including:
- Financial exposure and unpaid invoices
- Affected orders and stock availability
- Cash-flow challenges
- Product categories affected
- The support suppliers need
- Potential alternative routes to market
The clearer the picture, the better we can focus our support, identify potential opportunities and represent the challenges our industry is experiencing.
